About The Designer

A native of Lexington County, South Carolina, James E. Smith, opened Residential Design Services, Inc. in the fall of 2003. Prior to opening RDS Inc., Mr. Smith spent five+ years working in the single family department of The Lessard Architectural Group, Inc. in the Washington, D.C. area. With more than 18 years combined design and construction experience, Mr. Smith has the knowledge and the creative vision to make your dream home a reality.

What We Do

RDS Inc. offers design and drafting services in the residential marketplace ranging from small additions and remodels to custom single family homes.

Builders and developers benefit from our service by knowing that homes designed for them will not be sold to any other local builder, giving them a product that they can call their own.

Homeowners benefit by knowing their custom home is just that, a true custom. We can also assist with the coordination of the various trades involved in the construction of your project.
